The fifth DSC session took place on February 23-24, 2019. This session main theme was the upcoming presidential elections in Ukraine. Many high-level experts came to the Centre to share their vision and perspective on the situation and its possible outcomes.
Dr Andreas Umland started the working session with the Inspiring Breakfast. Dr Umland and the DSC scholars led an active discussion about the presidential elections in Ukraine in March, the possible scenarios and the impact not only on Ukraine’s political scene but on also on the international arena.
It was a great honor to have Mr Fredrik Wesslau, Deputy Head of the European Union Advisory Mission to Ukraine, speaking at the Centre. Mr Wesslau was focusing on the topic “Reforming Ukraine’s Civilian Security Sector: The Work of the European Union Advisory Mission to Ukraine.”
Ms Iryna Vereshchuk, President of the International Center for Baltic-Black Sea Studies and Consensus Practices, shared her perspective on how to be a female politician in today’s Ukraine. Her inspiring story on her career path from a provincial mayor to the resident of presidents.
Sunday started with Mr Andriy Yurychko giving an extremely interesting workshop on Media Literacy During the Election Period.
Dr Andreas Heinemann-Grüder, Professor of Political Science at the University of Bonn & Bonn International Conversion Centre, gave a lecture on a very serious topic “Mass Atrocities and Crimes Against Humanity: Is Prevention Possible?”
The last speaker of this session was Mr Andriy Kulykov, journalist who spoke on Current Realities of the Ukrainian Journalism.
